How a funded project runs

  1. 01

    Screening call

Twenty minutes to establish building type, fuels, age and likely programmes. No cost.

  2. 02

Where a programme funds the study, we apply on your behalf first, so the analysis costs you little or nothing.

  3. 03

    Study & measure list

Costed measures with savings, incentive value, payback and carbon impact, sealed under our permit.

  4. 04

    Application

We prepare and submit the incentive application; you review and approve before it goes.

  5. 05

    Design & construction

M&E design, tender support and construction review as required.

  6. 06

    Verification and payment

Post-project verification against the baseline, through to the incentive being paid.

BC Energy Funding Questions

What Energy Funding Is Available In British Columbia?

BC building owners can draw on FortisBC assessment, custom and prescriptive incentives, BC Hydro custom project and feasibility funding, CleanBC integrated energy audits and EV charger rebates, and BC Housing capital streams for non-profits. Most programmes fund the study before the retrofit, so the engineering work often costs the owner little or nothing.

Are There Energy Rebates For Rental Apartments In BC?

Yes. The FortisBC Rental Apartment Efficiency Program funds a full building energy assessment and installs water-efficiency products in every suite at no cost for purpose-built rental buildings of nine units or more, then pays enhanced incentives on heating and hot water upgrades.

Are There Rebates For Hotels And Motels?

BC hotels and motels on a FortisBC commercial rate class qualify for the same funded assessment and free water-efficiency products, with further incentives available on laundry, pool heating, kitchen ventilation and central plant replacement.

Is There A Rebate For Care Homes And Seniors Residences?

Private retirement residences and licensed care homes are eligible building types under the FortisBC rental apartments and accommodations program, and can also access BC Hydro and CleanBC incentives for larger heating, ventilation and controls work.

Who Pays For The Energy Audit?

In most BC programmes the utility does. FortisBC, BC Hydro and CleanBC all fund assessments and feasibility studies for eligible buildings. BES applies for that funding first, so the study is paid for before any work is committed.

Can Rebates Be Combined?

Often, yes. Gas measures go through FortisBC and electrical measures through BC Hydro, and CleanBC or BC Housing capital can sit on top for qualifying buildings. We map which programmes stack for your building before any application is submitted.

Rental apartments, hotels, motels and care homes: see the FortisBC Rental Apartment Efficiency Program for the funded assessment and free water-efficiency products, or check your building's eligibility.
